Time to Say Goodbye!

Well my digital friends... the time has come for me to set you free to explore the Hunt County Buzz all on your own. Over the past 5 weeks we have submersed ourselves in what it takes to create and run a successful Hyperlocal News Site, and here we are. The site is live and the weeks have ended. Now I know some (maybe none) of you are thinking, "But Meagan, how will we know to check the Hunt County Buzz without you." Well my response to you is this. You'll know because I will have somehow turned you into followers of that site. So, in other words, you will be checking it all the time for information. An example given to me by my professor was that of Green Bay, Wisconsin. For those of you that don't know (I didn't either until my professor brought this up), Green Bay is the same size as the city of Tyler ,Texas.  Now Tyler is a relatively small town that would NOT be able to support a NFL team like Green Bay, and yet Green Bay has maintained their team for yea...

Week 4: A 'Stunt'actular Performance

Hello one and all!!!! Week 4 is upon us and the semester draws to a close... yet as the clock ticks away our time, the site that all of the promotions and the blogs have been talking about is finally live!!!! So this week we are meant to come up with a social media marketing stunt, a way to draw all you lovely people into viewing our site!! Yes I know I mentioned a stunt but we shall continue your regularly scheduled blog after a brief message about " The Saline Post "! This site has been a sounding board for many of the ideas I have personally pitched for the Hunt County Buzz . One of the many awesome things that I found here was that aspect of community involvement. I felt as if the site was created and maintained not only by the news team but by the entire community, they all inputted story ideas and feedback. This type of communication between source and audience is exactly what we at the Hunt County Buzz are striving for. Now I'm no expert but to me the best way...

Week 3 Final: The Long Awaited Conclusion!!

Hello all!! Once again we dive into this cyber world to discuss the topics I am learning through RTV 453. Earlier this week I introduced you to a social media tool called Mashable. In this post I am going to give the people (digital and otherwise) what they want!! I will finish my grand tale about Mashable. Prepare yourselves settle in with the popcorn and all the snacks because this post will be a long one. So as I teased last week, I gave you a nugget of information about Mashable from their own lips so to speak. “Mashable is a global, multi-platform media and entertainment company. Powered by its own proprietary technology, Mashable is the go-to source for tech, digital culture and entertainment content for its dedicated and influential audience around the globe.” After further research and study I discovered that this tool is similar to a hyperlocal news source, with different segmented sections for the different topics of interest, such as entertainment, tech, culture, etc. I ...

Mashable: Usable or Not?

Hello all!! Now I know you are used to to longer posts from me but this post is supposed to leave you wanting more!!! This week we had to choose a social media site (not Facebook or Twitter etc.) but a site you have probably never heard of. The site I chose is called Mashable. Now Mashable is a site dedicated to the spread of information, and they do a pretty fine job seeing as their site has five different formats for the five different nations/continents it serves. What are those five places you may ask... Well you'll just have to wait until next time to find out!!!

Week 2 Post 2: Here's to the 'Buzz'!

Hello again! This is the mid-week post about another interesting fact I have come across in my discovery of a hyperlocal news site. Among the news stories and the event calendars, a common theme appears... the theme of a community.  These communities are the backbone for most all hyperlocal news sites. The definition of hyperlocal news site even mentions a community! "S pecific sources based on stories covering an often-small community."  Whether there are sports teams winning a championship title or an annual police gala, Sites like the Saline Post  truly embody the events and happenings from their city centers.  Check out what I mean by following this link to the Saline Post 's site!!    http://thesalinepost.com This aspect of community is truly an ideal that should and will be present in the Hunt County Buzz, the Hyperlocal New Site created by the TAMUC (See previous blogs for full title) Mass Media and Journalism Department!! Until next time, ...

Week 2 (Promotions)

Hello all and welcome to another edition of RTV 453!! Last week we discussed the basics of a hyperlocal news source and why they are valuable to a community. The example I gave was the Saline Post's decision to include community input, i.e. story suggestions and the like from the people the source benefits. Well this week, we have a new topic, drum roll please... The Mass Media & Journalism Department of Texas A&M University Commerce will be creating and presenting their own Hyperlocal News Source!!!  As we know, a hyperlocal news source is a faucet of information however they are based in an often-small community. One of the aspects of the Hunt County Buzz (that's the TAMUC site name) is the usage of popular social media sites. Seeing that most of the new generations are what some would call addicted to their phones and their social media, those of us at the Hunt County Buzz thought social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram would be an excellent add...
